Team 1920 - Flufflepuff (Part of GEARS, a ETHOS Science Center Program) takes top award, 1st Place Champion Award. They will advance onto the World Championship held April in St. Louis.

44 of the top FIRST LEGO League Teams (ages 10-14) competed in the Northern State Championships Dec 10th at the IPWF campus in Fort Wayne.

This included 10 of the top teams from the local E3 Robotics Qualifying Tournament, in Elkhart, and 8 teams from the NCI Qualifying Tournament in Granger.

FIRST LEGO League, and FIRST LEGO League Jr are a part of FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST is trying to help inspire kids grades K-12 to love science and technology and seek jobs in these high paying fields of work.

Each year a new theme comes out for teams each year. This years theme is "Animal Allies" for FIRST LEGO League, teams focused on Animals, their habitats, and the human interaction with them.

For those FIRST LEGO League Teams they also focus on a Robot Game. With teams competing on a 4'x8' board with the "Animal Allies" them. Some of the challenges teams had to design and program their robot for was to transport a Bee on to a Bee Hive, Move a Dog Trainer and Animal Vet to marked areas on the board. Collect food and feed animals around the board, and if possible try to hang their robot on a wall with a gecko!

Team 3006 - Beigerbots (From Beiger Elementary in Mishawaka) takes 2nd Place Champion Award. They will advance onto the Razorback International held May on the University of Arkansas Campus.

Thank you to this years Tournament Sponsors: Lippert Components, First State Bank, Community Foundation of Elkhart County, Elkhart Community Schools, NIBCO, and ETHOS Science Center.

36 FIRST LEGO League Teams (ages 10-14) came together November 12th to compete in the E3 Robotics Center Qualifying tournament at Elkhart Memorial High School. And 16 FIRST LEGO League Jr Team (ages 6-10) came to present at the local expo as well.

FIRST LEGO League, and FIRST LEGO League Jr are a part of FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST is trying to help inspire kids grades K-12 to love science and technology and seek jobs in these high paying fields of work.

For those FIRST LEGO League Teams they also focus on a Robot Game. With teams competing on a 4'x8' board with the "Animal Allies" them. The Teams got to run their robots on the table for two 2 1/2 min rounds in which they would try to score as many points with their robot as they could. Robots had to be pre-programmed and would run based off of their programs downloaded into them. Teams also presented to 3 sets of judges in the following areas. Robot Design, where teams presented about their building and programming of their robot. Core Values, in which they talk about how they work as a team and respect each other.

And Project Presentation where they had to come up with a problem animals face and create an innovative solution to the problem they found.

Teams then could win awards for those judged areas and their robot performance. The top overall teams in the judged areas and robot performance then got to advance to the State Championship.

18 FIRST LEGO League Teams came together October 1st to practice for the FLL (FIRST LEGO Leauge) Qualifying Tournament in November.

FLL is part of FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST is trying to help inspire kids grades K-12 to love science and technology and seek jobs in these high paying fields of work.

FLL is part of FIRST making up the 4th-8th grade range of their 4 Robotics Programs.

Each year FLL comes out with a different Theme for the 4x8 board the teams will run their robot on. This years theme is "Trash Trek", which is all about what happens to items when we are done with them?

Some of the missions this year were, Demolishing a building to recycle materials, composting food items, installing a engine into a car to fix it and reuse it, save animals by getting plastic bags out of their habitat, and using methane to power factories and buildings.

This is only the halfway point right now. The ETHOS Sci Center Qualifying Tournament will be Nov 21st at Elkhart Memorial H.S. and will be open and free to the public to come and watch 36 teams compete to try to claim a seat as a top team and advance onto the State Championship in December hosted down in Fort Wayne at IPFW.

18 Elkhart FIRST LEGO League Teams came together October 2nd to practice for the FLL (FIRST LEGO Leauge) Qualifying Tournament in November.

FLL is part of FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST is trying to help inspire kids grades K-12 to love science and technology and seek jobs in these high paying fields of work. FLL is part of FIRST making up the 4th-8th grade range of their 4 Robotics Programs.

Each year FLL comes out with a different Theme for the 4x8 board the teams will run their robot on. This years theme is FLL World Class, which is all about Education and Learning in and outside the classroom.

Some of the missions this year were, Opening a Door to take Learning Outside the class room. Getting an Idea out of a Box, collecting skills from a search engine, and accessing a data cloud using a LEGO "key" teams had to build.

The Elkhart Teams got to run their robots on the table for two 2 1/2 min rounds in which they would try to score as many points with their robot as they could.
